Martijn de Waal (1972, mw at dds dot nl is a writer and researcher based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His work has appeared in national newspapers and magazines in the Netherlands, and on the Dutch National Public Radio. His book America - Dial P for Paradise was published by Uitgeverij Podium in 2002. His main interests are urban culture and new media. Since 1993 he has visited China on many occasions. He is currently working as a researcher at the department of practical philosophy at Rijksuniversiteit in Groningen and at the department of mediastudies at the University of Amsterdam. He is also one of the founders of DeNieuweReporter.nl a groupblog on new media, public culture, technology and journalism. His photocollages Imagined Cities can be found at www.imaginedcities.com.
