DCF is an international Beijing-based not for profit urban research institute focused on sustainable planning and architecture. The last six years DCF has produced numerous masterplans, studies, books and building designs for many new projects in China, including Tanggu Yujiapu Green CBD, Qingdao, Beijing Gaobeidian. Currently DCF has been invited by the Dutch government to do a proposal for the Shanghai World Expo on the topic of Better City Better Life. The project, based on a long-term investigation of how sustainable urban plans can evolve and can get greener over time, is accepted as a central exhibition for the World Expo. Production costs of the exhibition and the design will be covered by the Dutch China Foundation for the Arts.
For this project the DCF has invited ten world renowned architecture offices. 5 Dutch, 5 Chinese, they will together built on the existing masterplan produced for CFD continuing to envisage a plan till 2050. The project will receive extensive technical support from Tsinghua University School of Architecture and the Tsinghua institute of Technology.
The project breaks down in two phases.
Step 1: Conceptual analysis and formulation of long-term green objectives. To be presented in a forum at the 2009 Shenzhen Biennale for Architecture and Urban Planning.
Step 2: Ten concrete proposals for CFD in the form of planning and architecture between now and 2050.
Through this project the DCF and the selected companies hope to present their most visionary and powerful concepts to the CFD government and to the world at the Shanghai Expo. This project, we hope, should form the basis for a fruitful collaboration between CFD and the Dynamic City Foundation.
